Black Seed Oil & Cancer

In Islaam we have two main textual religious sources; the Qur'aan (Direct Words/Revelation of Allaah) & the Sunnah (The embodiment of that in the words, actions, and approvals of Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him), He was heard saying concerning black seed: "In it there is healing for every disease, except as-saam." Ibn Shihaab said: As-saam is death.

"‏ "إِنَّ فِي الْحَبَّةِ السَّوْدَاءِ شِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ إِلاَّ السَّامَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَالسَّامُ الْمَوْتُ

"In it there is healing for every disease, except as-saam." Ibn Shihaab said: As-saam is death. (Recordered by Al-Bukhaaree, Muslim, At-Tirmidhee and others)

So it is not a shock to us that black seed is also a healing for even cancer, as well as other illnesses, and there are many instances of this in Islaamic history.

In modern medicine Karen McCarthy (www.livestrong.com) writes, "Back seeds, also called black cumin, are the seeds of the nigella sativa flowering plant, commonly known as fennel flower. Black seeds and the oil pressed from them have been used in traditional medical systems in different cultures for centuries. Black seed oil is very therapeutic; when taken internally it can help counteract many diseases. It has been found to have anticancer and anti-tumor effects in rats. Studies done on humans are lacking, but black seed oil has been used on cancer patients in traditional systems of medicine since antiquity"

Suppresses Growth of Multiple Types of Cancer: A study published in "Oncology Letters" in 2010 found that two daily doses of crude extra-virgin black seed oil inhibited the growth of cancer tumors in the colon, lungs, esophagus and fore-stomach in rats. This was the case both in rats given doses at 50 milligrams per kilogram of body weight and 200 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. The study concluded that black seed oil has carcinopreventive and chemopreventative potential, which means it could possibly be used to prevent cancer and lessen the need for chemotherapy in the early stage of cancer, due to its ability to suppress the proliferation of cancer cells."

Suppresses Tumor Growth: In another study, published in the "Brazil Journal of Medical and Biological Research" in 2007, scientists induced cancerous tumors in rats to find the extent to which black seed oil could suppress their growth. They injected the oil directly into tumors on rats every day for 30 days, and did not treat the control group. By the end of the study, the control group had tumors about 2.5 centimeters in size, whereas the tumors in treated rats were just two-tenths of a centimeter. This reveals more compelling evidence supporting the potential role of black seed oil in preventing the need for chemotherapy in cancer patients.

Thymoquinone is a Potential Cancer Therapy Drug: The most active medicinal compound in black seed oil is called thymoquinone. In a study published in "Molecular Cancer Therapeutics" in 2008, scientists injected a low dose of thymoquinone into cancerous human prostate tumor cells in a petri dish. The proliferation of the tumor cells stopped, with no toxic side effects. No new blood vessels formed within the tumors, and they stopped growing in size. The scientists concluded that thymoquinone stops tumor growth in humans and claim it has potential as a drug for cancer therapy."

Medical Uses: Blackseed has been for over 1400 years, and in recent centuries increasing numbers of research have been undertaken to investigate its properties. Since 1959 more than 200 studies were undertaken at various international universities and many articles published in support of the vast healing properties and superb affects of black seed on the immune system as well as its assistance in helping the bodys own healing process.

  • Research carried out by the The Cancer Immune- Biology Laboratory of South Carolina stated that ‘Black Cumin Oil (Black Seed) generally helps stimulate the production of bone marrow and cells of the immune system. It increases the production of interferon, protects normal cells from the damaging effects of viral disease, destroys tumour cells and increases the number of antibody producing B cells.’

  • Due to its constituent Nigellone which offers both anti-spasmodic and bronchodilating properties, black seed is strong against respiratory ailments.

  • Studies carried out on rats by the department of bio-chemistry at the Goziosmanpasa University medical facility in Tokat, Turkey concluded that ‘N sativa (nigella sativa) may protect brain and medulla spinalis tissues against oxidative stress induced by EAE (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis).

  • Black seed is an anti-oxidant thus helps cleanse the body of toxins. It contains immense benefits for the body and is used as a remedy to treat wide range of ailments such as skin disorder, allergies, illnesses, infections, conditions related to respiratory health, digestive system, kidney and liver function, circulatory and immune system as well as support and assist the general well being. • The rich supply of polyunsaturated fatty acids found in the black seed plays a key role in daily health and wellbeing. It helps regulate the metabolism and the cholesterol, eliminates toxins from the body, improves the blood circulation, balances insulin level and increases healthier liver function.

  • Through vast research and recent studies it has been discovered that black seed acts as an anti-biotic, anti bacterial, antifungal, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-cancer, anti-asthmatic, antitumor, anti-histaminic, anti hypertensive, hypoglycaemic, and anti-bacterial, anti bronchial and immune boosting agent.

These medical studies attest to the truthfulness of the statement of the messenger of Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon Him) that within the black seed is a cure for every disease.
